Is it not enough to put a thing at the start of a chapter going “THIS HAS BONYNGE IN IT”? I seriously don’t want to squick readers but I don’t know how else to do it other than some HTML fuckery whereby someone can skip from point A to point B in the text.

I got a review along the lines of “welp i’m not gonna be able to read IFC anymore cause I don’t know where the smutty parts begin or end.” Harshed my mellow because I am dumb like that.

I put a thing at the beginning of the chapter saying Explicit Sexual Content and everything but now I suppose I am going to insert a bunch of asterisks as well delimiting the nsfw bits.

i think that would be really intrusive and break immersion. what is your mission: to please one grumpy stranger, or to write the story the way it wants to be written?

i’m sorry to say, the better-known you get, the more often you’ll have to deal with people trying to derail your efforts. they do it subconsciously, for attention, i think. if you let them dictate what you can and can’t write, you’ll enjoy writing less and less, and also there will be drama sooner or later, and we may get a fantastic luka rant out of it but i still think you deserve better… or maybe i’m just biased by that incident where roachpatrol got dogpiled by the sj police and took down one of my favorite stories, and also i haven’t had enough coffee yet, i should go do that.

My vote: tag in a non-spoilery way and don’t intrude on the story between installments unless it’s something major like “hiatus brb” that you can remove later if needed. It messes me up when a story goes all “brace yourself for what’s coming” in either a Note or inside the narrative itself because then I have Expectations and I am the king of immersion purity. Love to not know what’s coming! Many writers micro-manage the reading experience and I just can’t get my feel on for that.

I will rant later if you people don’t stop me but i’m on a schedule at the moment so let’s just say FUCK people who make their failure to mind the rating and the tags your deal. IT’S ERISOL BIPCHES HOW CAN THERE NOT BE SMEX.

Basically yeah let people duck out if they make a big deal out of not wanting to skim the touchies. How hard is it to scroll down? Pretty hard, that arrow key is really far away.
